Illinois names Acting State Conservationist


The Illinois Natural Resources Conservation Service has named Tammy Willis as the Acting State Conservationist.

Willis replaced State Conservationist Ivan Dozier who retired and will be headquarted in Champaign where she has worked for the agency for 28 years.

Willis assumed her duties on Feb. 27

She began her career with USDA Soil Conservation Service (now NRCS) in 1995 and has worked in multiple states throughout her career.  

Willis started as a Soil Conservationist trainee in Jonesboro, Ark. and continued to Freeport and Sycamore, Ill. She later moved to Wynne, Ark. in 2003 as a District Conservationist to continue providing technical assistance and farm bill program delivery to farmers, livestock producers and other customers. 

In 2007, she was selected as an Area Resource Conservationist in Dayton, Ohio and later became the Assistant State Conservationist for Programs in Syracuse, NY. In 2021, she was selected as the first Assistant State Conservationist for Partnerships for NY. 

Since 1935, the Natural Resources Conservation Service has worked with private landowners with conserving their soil, water, and other natural resources. Service centers are located in most Illinois counties to deliver services to customers based directly on their needs.
