NEWTON –– Only one athlete from Lawrence County remains standing following the IHSA Class 1A Boys Track Sectional at

Red Hill’s Sam Stimler was the only local athlete to be able to extend his season, as he qualified for the state meet by finishing second in the 200.
Stimler posted a time of 23.04 to advance, while he also finished fifth in the 100 with a time of 11.59.
Just missing on a spot in the state meet was the RHHS 400 relay team of Holden Jacobsen, Brennan Potts, Reece Ralston and Stimler, which placed third with a time of 45.27.
Also for the Salukis, Potts finished fourth in the 100 (11.59) and sixth in the 200 (23.95), Ralston was sixth in the 300 hurdles (46.59), the 800 relay team of Ralston, Potts, Jacobsen and Stimler finished seventh (1:38), Ethyn Tarr was 12th in the discus (104-7.5), Trent Benson was 13th in the shot put (35-7.5), Gage Jones was 16th in the 400 (59.46), Fabrizio Petrazuollo was 18th in the 800 (2:40) and 1600 (6:14) and Colson Walker was 19th in the discus (83-8.75) and 24th in the shot put (28-5.75).
As for Lawrenceville, top finisher was Braydan Morrison, who placed ninth in the 800 with a time of 2:19, while Kollin Ramos

finished 11th in the 400 (56.75).

Also for LHS, Aiden Crawford was 14th in the 1600 (5:32) and Zaidan Morrison was 20th in the 400 (1:06) and 25th in the 100 (13.98).
In the team standings, Red Hill finished 10th with 31 points, while Lawrenceville did not score and tied with Patoka for 17th among the 18 teams in the field. Newton won the team title with 138 points, with Robinson (116), Altamont (68.5), Effingham St. Anthony (65), Casey-Westfield (57), Flora (53), Oblong-Palestine-Hutsonville (42), Cumberland (38.5), and Teutopolis (35) also finishing ahead the of Salukis, while Brownstown-St. Elmo (18), Cowden-Herrick-Beecher City (13), Vandalia (12), Louisville-North Clay (6), Stewardson-Strasburg-Windsor (4) and Dieterich (2) rounded out the field.
Stimler will compete in the preliminaries of the IHSA Class 1A State Finals at Eastern Illinois University’s O’Brien Stadium in Charleston Thursday, May 25, with running events beginning at 11 a.m. The finals of the 1A meet will be held Saturday, May 27, beginning at 10 a.m.
