BLOOMINGTON –– Recent Red Hill High School graduate Jacob Powden will get to represent the Saluki blue, red and white next month, as he was chosen to participate in the 49th Annual Illinois High School Shrine Game in Bloomington.
The game will be played June 17 on the campus of Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington and will feature 92 players from high schools across the state.
The annual event raises money to help provide outstanding medical care for children at the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
Powden had a stellar final season for the Salukis, as he posted 895 yards rushing and nine touchdowns in 10 games. He also caught 24 passes for another 329 yards and seven touchdowns and returned a kickoff for a score as well.
Meanwhile, Powden was solid defensively as well, recording 24 solo tackles, including one for loss, 28 assists, eight interceptions and five pass deflections. He also returned one of those interceptions for a touchdown to bring his season total for touchdowns to 18.
Powden – who signed to play football at Division III Knox College next season – is one of 46 players that will suit up as a member of the Red Team to take on another 46 players making up the Blue Team.
This year’s game will is set to be played at IWU’s Tucci Stadium at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 17.
