Lady Maroons drop opener at Mt. Carmel, 16-6

It was a rough start to the season for Robinson High School’s softball team March 16, as the Lady Maroons dropped their first game of the season at Mt. Carmel in less than ideal conditions, 16-6.

The Lady Maroons trailed 4-1 after one inning, then scored twice in the third to pull within 4-3, only to give up a run in the bottom of the third and six more in the fourth for an 11-3 deficit. Robinson rallied for three runs in the top of the fifth to close the gap to 11-6, but Mt. Carmel countered with five runs in the bottom of the inning to end the game via the 10-run rule.

Jayden Cravens led RHS with two singles and two runs scored, while Mallory Mosbey singled twice and drove in a run, Maci Smith singled, knocked in a run and scored a run, Paige Sanders added a base hit, Cadance Brashear drove in a run and Raegan Manhart, Sydney Harmon and Ella Bunten each scored a run.

Eva Hermann was the losing pitcher, allowing six runs on seven hits, while walking two and striking out four in three and two-thirds innings of work. Sanders went the rest of the way, giving up 10 runs (four earned) on seven hits and two walks in an inning of work.

Robinson (0-1) is slated to play at Cumberland Monday and then scheduled to play a round-robin at Paris against Paris and Westville Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m.
