OPH baseball rallies past Olney, 9-6

One big inning erased an early deficit and propelled Oblong-Palestine-Hutsonville’s baseball team to a come-from-behind win Monday.

OPH trailed early, but used an eight-run fourth inning to rally for a 9-6 win at Olney in a non-conference contest.

Two runs in the first and four in the second put OPH in an early 6-0 hole, but OPH responded with an eight-run fourth to take an 8-6 lead. OPH then tacked on an insurance run in the seventh to help seal the win.

Bentley Cook led the offense for OPH with a solo home run, while Caden Goodwin singled twice, drove in two runs and scored a run. Arron Johnson singled twice and scored two runs, Riley Blank doubled, singled, knocked in a run and scored a run, Lucas Blessing posted a double, two runs batted in and a run scored, Max Lewis and Ace Coulter added a base hit, a run batted in and a run scored apiece, Cole Littlejohn singled and drove in a run and Rowan Bailey scored a run.

Bailey was also the winning pitcher, allowing six runs (five earned) on three hits, while walking three and striking out three in five and one-third innings. Blank went the rest of the way, giving up one hit and striking out two in one and two-thirds innings of relief to earn the save.

OPH (2-8) is scheduled to play host to Dieterich Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. and then play at Cumberland Wednesday and at Neoga Friday to wrap up a busy week on the diamond.
