OPH boys 1st, girls 2nd at Red Hill


The first meet of the season was a fairly successful one for Oblong-Palestine-Hutsonville’s track team.

In a three-team meet at Red Hill March 20, the new OPH co-op made its debut and came away with a first-place finish in the boys’ meet and a second-place finish in the girls’ meet.

OPH won nine events and finished the boys’ meet with 64 points, while Red Hill was second with 47 and Lawrenceville finished third with 16.

KJ Davis won a pair of events, taking first in the 100 hurdles (15.96) and long jump (19-6), as did TJ Pringle by winning the 400 (1:02) and 800 (2:26). Also winning were Jonathan McPherson in the 100 (11.01), Austin Hargrave in the shot put (36-2.5), Callum Roeder in the high jump (5-7), the 800 relay team Roeder, Elliott Meadows, McPherson and Davis (1:38) and the 1600 relay team of Cole Tingley, Kaden McCormack, Ezrah Lemmon and Pringle (4:41).

Finishing second were McPherson in the 200 (23.72), Davis in the high jump (5-7) and the 400 relay team of Meadows, James Klein, Hargrave and McPherson (57.05), while coming in third were McCormack in the 400 (1:39) and shot put (33-1), Roeder in the 200 (24.16), Hargrave in the discus (66-5) and Meadows in the long jump (15-6).

Also for OPH, Tingley was fourth in the 800 (2:44) and fifth in the 400 (1:15), Lemmon was fourth in the 400 (1:11) and fifth in the discus (65-7), Hargrave was fourth in the discus (66-5), Roeder was fifth in the 100 (12.30) and Meadows was sixth in the 100 (12.90).

In the girls’ meet, OPH finished with 53 points to finish behind Red Hill (80), but ahead of Lawrenceville (21).

First-place finishers for OPH were Andrea Mattingly in the 100 (12.88) and 200 (28.41), Genell Russell in the 100 hurdles (18.21) and 300 hurdles (55.00), Ava Patchett in the 400 (1:09) and Morgan Knoblett in the long jump (13-9), while placing second were Ilayna Sheets in the 200 (33.09), Knoblett in the 400 (1;12), Russell in the discus (69-7), Jaylee Hyre in the long jump (12-8.5), the 400 relay team of Russell, Patchett, Mattingly and Knoblett (55.76) and the 800 relay team Sheets, Daylen Beckes, Abby Hyre and Emily Rachoy (2:14).

Also for OPH, Jaylee Hyre was third in the 200 (34.20) and sixth in the 100 (14.70), Bailey Mitchell was third in the shot put (24-8.5) and sixth in the discus (54-4), Rachoy was third in the discus (65-2) and fifth in the shot put (21-11.75), Sheets was fourth in the 100 (13.93), Sayaka Suzuki finished sixth in the shot put (21-9.5),  Abby Hyre was seventh in the discus (54-3) and eighth in the 100 (15.60), Beckes finished ninth in the 100 (15.80) and discus (50-8) and 12th in the shot put (17-9.75) and Alaina Stephens was 10th in the shot put (19-1.5) and 11th in the discus (43-2). 

Oblong-Palestine-Hutsonville is scheduled to compete in multi-team meets at Robinson Monday at 4 p.m.
