Cal Ripken 10s win pair over Little League 10s



BRIDGEPORT –– Two teams from the same county but different leagues squared off against each other Saturday for a pair of exhibition games in Bridgeport.

Lawrence County’s 10-under Cal Ripken all-star team played host to Lawrence County’s 10-under Little League all-star team for a doubleheader and the Cal Ripken team came away with the sweep, winning game one 10-5 and game two 12-9.

Statistics for game one were not available, but game two was a back-and-forth contest.

The Little League squad struck first with two runs in the top of the first inning, but Cal Ripken responded with five in the bottom of the inning. After a scoreless second inning, Little League erupted for seven runs in the top of the third to take a 9-5 lead. However, Cal Ripken responded in the bottom of the inning, plating six runs to jump back in front, 11-9. Cal Ripken then tacked on an insurance run in the fourth and held on for the win.

Logan Camden led Cal Ripken with two singles and a run scored, while Emery Crutchfield and Hudson Scott singled, scored two runs and drove in a run. Gage Wattles singled and scored two runs, Max Crouch singled and scored a run, Mason Dunn added a base hit, Ben Wilcox scored two runs, Redick Adamson knocked in a run and scored a run, Darius Eagleson drove in a run and Carver James scored a run.

Aten was the winning pitcher, allowing nine runs on one hit, while walking 15 batters and striking out nine in four innings of work. Crutchfield tossed the final inning to earn the save, walking two and striking out three.

Crew Waldrop led Little League with a single, a run batted in and a run scored, while Lewis Taylor and Leo Seitzinger scored two runs apiece. Elias Cowling and Parker Lewis each drove in a run and scored a run, Braxton Schwartz, Noah Gher and Wyatt Carie each drove in a run and Emmitt Bearden and Giorgio Rochford scored a run apiece.

Taylor was the losing pitcher, allowing six runs (five earned) on three hits and three walks in two-thirds of an inning in relief. Bearden started and gave up four runs with three walks and a hit batter without recording an out, Waldrop allowed an unearned run on three hits, while walking one and striking out four in two innings of relief and Seitzinger gave up an unearned run on one hit and struck out three in one and two-thirds innings of work.
