Deputy minority leader in Illinois House seeks to unseat two-time Democratic incumbent

State Rep. Tom Demmer, R-Dixon, announced he will run for state treasurer on Tuesday. If he wins the Republican Party nomination, he likely would face two-term incumbent Mike Frerichs, who is seeking reelection.

The Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR) will begin accepting 2021 state individual income tax returns on Monday, Jan. 24, the same date that the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) begins accepting federal individual income tax returns.

Speaker names new house budget negotiation team

Illinois House Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch announced a new House budget negotiation team, led by House Majority Leader and chief budgeteer Greg Harris, D-Chicago. Former Speaker Michael Madigan appointed Harris to be the chief budgeteer during the Rauner administration. Harris, the second-ranking Democrat in the House, announced in November that he would not seek re-election after the completion of his current term this year. Harris said he will share his knowledge and experience of the budget process with the team to “pass the mantle.”
