Indians fall short at Casey-Westfield, 12-6

CASEY –– Points were hard to come by on a rain-soaked Sinclair-Vidoni Field Friday night and unfortunately for Lawrenceville High School’s football team, that resulted in another defeat.

The Indians could not muster much offensively in their Little Illini Conference game at Casey-Westfield and came out on the short end of a 12-6 loss in the contest that featured rain falling steadily throughout most of it.

Casey-Westfield struck early, scoring on its first possession, as Cole Livingston scored on a one-yard run at the 8:06 mark of the first quarter. However, defense dominated the rest of the first half, as no other scores were made and the Indians trailed just 6-0 at halftime.

Casey-Westfield would strike again early in the third quarter, this time with Livingston scoring on a one-yard run to make the score 12-0 after the two-point conversion attempt failed.

Lawrenceville would respond, putting together its only scoring drive of the game, capped by a 21-yard touchdown pass from Luke Hatfield to Parker Hardiman. The Indians would misfire on the two-point conversion attempt and trailed 12-6 with 3:32 left in the third quarter.

The Indian defense was able to hold strong and keep Casey-Westfield from scoring further, but the LHS offense was unable to take advantage and ultimately fell short.

Lawrenceville managed just 71 yards of offense for the game (36 passing, 35 rushing), while Casey-Westfield totaled 223, all but two of which came on the ground.

Hatfield completed 4-11 passes for 36 yards and a touchdown, with Parker Hardiman catching a 21-yard touchdown pass. Hayden Frey ran for 22 yards on nine carries, Bryant Jenkins ran eight times for 15 yards and caught two passes for 11 yards, Clarence Hardiman added a four-yard reception and Tanner Waller ran once for one yard.

Connor Sullivan led Casey-Westfield with 160 yards rushing on 29 attempts, while Livingston ran 10 times for 37 yards and two touchdowns.

Lawrenceville also lost the junior varsity game with Casey-Westfield Monday night, 22-12.

Parker Hardiman threw a 62-yard touchdown pass to Wyatt Halter and Conor Lill had a three-yard touchdown run. Trevor Loy and Dylan Leydet each recorded an interception on defense.

Lawrenceville (1-4, 1-4 LIC) will play host to Lawrenceville for a LIC contest Friday at p.m.
