Lady Statesmen pick up first win of season



 

 

While it didn’t come as soon as they would have liked, Lincoln Trail College’s volleyball team finally found its way into the win column earlier this week.
The Lady Statesmen snapped a nine-match losing streak to start the season by winning their most recent match over Shawnee Tuesday in three sets, 25-19, 25-12, 25-18.
“After a very rough start, we finally pulled it off,” LTC head coach Dana Goodwin said. “We stayed determined and kept a winning mindset in all three sets. We really needed this confidence boost.”
Hallee Gauna led LTC with seven kills, two digs, one ace and one block, while Tori Schopmeyer posted seven kills, one ace and one dig. Hannah Rodgers contributed 11 assists and one ace, Trista Koertge totaled six assists, one kill and one dig, Nydeli Escobedo registered eight digs and one assist, Emma Bailey recorded five assists and two aces, Malee McCoskey collected five digs, two aces and one kill, Abigail Dow netted four kills, Vayda Smith chipped in three digs and two aces, Kinley Block added three kills and one block, Natalie Oberlink had three kills and one dig and Payton Propst had two kills.
Prior to the win, the Lady Statesmen saw their losing skid run to nine matches after a loss to Wabash Valley (17-25, 15-25, 12-25) on Sept. 9 and four losses over the weekend at the Joliet Tournament.
Against Wabash Valley, Schopmeyer led LTC with eight kills, two blocks and two digs, while Bailey posted 11 assists and one ace. Koertge contributed six assists, Escobedo netted eight digs and one assist, McCoskey recorded five digs and two kills, Gauna totaled four kills, two blocks and one ace, Oberlink collected four kills and one block, Block netted three kills and Rodgers and Rayne Held added two assists apiece.
At Joliet, the Lady Statesmen lost to Morton (26-24, 11-25, 16-25, 19-25) and Highland (20-25, 14-25, 18-25) on Saturday and Frontier (16-25, 23-25, 15-25) and Kankakee (16-25, 24-26, 12-25) on Sunday.
Against Morton, Schopmeyer led LTC with six kills, four digs and three blocks, while Koertge posted seven assists and three digs. Bailey totaled six assists, three aces and two digs, Escobedo recorded eight digs and three assists, Gauna contributed four kills, four blocks and one ace, Propst collected four kills and one dig, Rodgers registered four kills, Block netted four blocks and one kill, McCoskey added three digs and one ace, Smith had three digs and Oberlink had one kill, one block and one dig.
Against Highland, Rodgers led LTC with 19 assists, three digs and one ace, while Schopmeyer totaled six kills, three digs, two blocks and one assist. Escobedo registered 13 digs and one kill, McCoskey posted nine digs and one ace, Propst netted six kills and one dig, Gauna recorded five kills, three blocks and one dig, Koertge contributed five assists and two digs, Oberlink collected four kills, two blocks and two digs, Block added three kills, three digs, two blocks and one assist and Dow had one kill.
Against Frontier, Escobedo led LTC with eight digs and four assists, while Schopmeyer posted six kills and four digs. Gauna totaled five kills, three blocks, one ace and one dig, Rodgers contributed five assists, two aces and two digs, Koertge collected five assists, one ace and one dig, Block recorded four blocks and one dig, Smith registered two kills, two aces, one block and one dig, McCoskey netted four digs, Oberlink added two kills, two blocks and one dig, Propst had two blocks and Bailey had one assist.
Against Kankakee, Rodgers led LTC with eight digs, five assists, two blocks and one ace, while Block posted six kills and three blocks. Escobedo recorded 12 digs and one ace, Schopmeyer totaled four kills, three digs and two blocks, McCoskey registered eight digs and one ace, Bailey netted five assists and one ace, Smith contributed four digs and two kills, Oberlink collected two kills and one block, Held added three digs, Dow had one kill and one block, Propst had one kill and Gauna had one block.
Lincoln Trail (1-9) played host to Southwestern Illinois Thursday and is to play a triangular match at John Wood Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m.
