Larry McDowell 'Jughead' Banks

CROSSVILLE — Larry McDowell “Jughead” Banks, age 82, Crossville, died Tuesday, July 27, 2021, at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.

He was born Nov. 27, 1938, in Allendale, the son of Everett McDowell Banks and Eva Pearl (Thomas) Banks. He was married to Gloria Kristine (Harrington) Banks and she survives.

Jughead was a U.S. Army veteran and served during the Vietnam War. He retired after 25 years of truck driving. In his earlier work career, he worked at Babcock and Wilcox in Mt. Vernon, Indiana and he also ran a trash pickup business. He enjoyed “junking” and disassembling things, and dealing with old cars, raising rabbits and visiting with everyone. He never knew a stranger.

Survivors include: his wife, Gloria Kristine Banks of Crossville; sons, James M. and Holly Banks, Sumner; and Jonathon A. and Carla Banks, Lawrenceville; daughters, April Renee Banks (David Murphy), Carmi; and Amanda (Bill) Doan, Grayville; brother, Bradly Banks and wife; sister, Sylvia (Gene) Salmon, all of Jacksonville, Florida; grandchildren, Tanna, Dennis, Amber, Joshua, Andrew, Alicia, William, Jr., Gloria and Levi; and great-grandchildren, Marcus, Tanner, Tucker, Carvin, Joslin, Kinzee, Brooklyn and Liam.

He is preceded in death by: his parents; and siblings, Omar “Spud;” Franklin “Butch;” Tom “Jiggs;” and Aleta.

The burial took place at Stokes Chapel Cemetery near Crossville with military rites.
