Runs were hard to come by for Lawrence County’s high school baseball team to close out the season, as the Lawrenceville-Red Hill co-op team managed to score just one run over its final four games and lost all four contests in Southern Illinois Prospect League action last week.

Against Teutopolis June 28, Lawrence County lost both ends of a doubleheader by scores of 9-1 and 14-0.

In game one, Lawrence County gave up single runs in each of the first four innings, then allowed four in the fifth and another in the sixth for a 9-0 deficit. Lawrence County managed to plate a run in the bottom of the sixth, but it was too little, too late.

Boston Gray led Lawrence County with two singles, while Eli Vennard singled and scored a run and Landon Sanders doubled.

Jack Patterson was the losing pitcher, allowing nine runs on eight hits, while walking two and striking out two in five-plus innings of work. Gray tossed the final two frames, giving up three hits and striking out one.

In game two, Lawrence County trailed 2-0 after one inning, 3-0 after two and 6-0 after three, then Teutopolis broke through for eight runs in the fifth to put the game out of reach.

Clayton Potts led Lawrence County with two singles, while Trent Burgett added a base hit.

Gray was tagged with the loss, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out one in an inning of work. Carter Davis gave up four runs on five hits, walked one and struck out two in two innings of relief and Payton Seaney allowed eight runs on nine hits and struck out three in two innings of work.

At Robinson June 30, Lawrence County dropped games by scores of 4-0 and 6-0.

Game one was scoreless until the bottom of the second, when Robinson pushed across two runs to take the lead for good. Robinson then added single runs in the third and sixth innings to complete the scoring.

Patterson led Lawrence County at the plate with a double, while Blake Davis singled.

Garrett Moorehead was the losing pitcher, allowing four runs on nine hits, while walking one and striking out four in six innings of work.

In game two, Robinson scored a run in the bottom of the first to take an early lead, then plated four more runs in the third and another in the fourth to pull away for the win.

Neilan Bickers led Lawrence County at the plate with two singles, while Burgett added a base hit.

Bickers was also the losing pitcher, giving up five runs (two earned) on seven hits and striking out three in three innings of work. Vennard tossed the final frame, giving up a run on one hit, walking one and striking out two.

Lawrence County ended its summer season with a 3-11 record.
