BRIDGEPORT –– County rivals met on the court Thursday (March 25) with both of them searching for their first win and when it was all said and done, Lawrenceville High School’s volleyball team came out on top, defeating rival Red Hill in two sets, 25-12, 25-17.

Serena Buchanan led LHS with 13 points, including three aces, 11 assists, three digs and one kill, while Paisley Winkles posted 11 points with one ace, 14 digs and five kills. Riley Greentree contributed four points with one ace and 17 digs, Lorien Vowells totaled four points with one ace, two kills, two digs and one block, Alyssa Garza recorded four points with one ace and two digs, Haley Bellville collected two points with one ace, five digs and three kills, Abbie Vaughn netted one kills, one block and one dig and Kaya Tredway added one dig.

Kylar Worstell led RHHS with seven assists, one ace and one dig, while Saylor Price posted eight digs and one ace. Cassie Daugherty contributed three kills and one block, Makaela Andrews netted three kills and one dig, Mattie Ryan recorded four digs, one kill and one block and Linsey Wirth added two digs.

In the junior varsity match, Lawrenceville came away with a 27-25, 25-14 win.

Madelyn Garza led LHS with nine points, while Serena Buchanan posted eight, Emily Bellville and Vowells each netted five and Bella Sapp added one.

Austin Fisher led RHHS with two aces, one assist and one dig, while Kamee Lytle posted three digs and one ace. Emily Wirth recorded two kills and one ace, Kamryn Young netted two assists and one dig, Tess Heath recorded three digs, Sydney Miller contributed two digs and Olivia Ray added one kill and one block.

On Monday, both teams dropped Little Illini Conference contests, with Lawrenceville losing to Marshall (17-25, 14-25) and Red Hill falling to Flora (12-25, 11-25).

Against Marshall, Vowells led LHS with three points, including one ace and one kill, while Greentree posted two points with one ace and 11 digs. Winkles contributed two points, seven digs and one kill, Haley Bellville totaled two points with one ace, six kills and four digs, Buchanan recorded one point, eight assists and two digs, Alyssa Garza collected one point with one ace and two digs, Vaughn netted two blocks and one kill, Emily Bellville registered one assist and one dig and Tredway and Madelyn Garza each added one dig.

In the JV match, Lawrenceville lost in three sets, 25-15, 22-25, 12-15.

Vowells led the Lady Indians with nine points, while Tredway posted six, Buchanan and Emily Bellville each netted four, Sapp and Kourtney Kasinger recorded three points apiece and Madelyn Garza added two.

Against Flora, Worstell led the Lady Salukis with six assists, one kill and one ace, while Ryan recorded four digs and one kill. Lindsey Wirth posted two kills and one ace, Daugherty contributed two kills, Andrews netted one ace and Lytle added one kill.

Red Hill also lost the JV match 9-25, 8-25.

Young led RHHS with two aces, two assists and one block, while Ray posted two kills and two blocks, Emily Wirth contributed two kills and one ace, Fisher collected two digs, one block and one assist and Heath netted one dig.

Lawrenceville (1-4, 1-3 LIC) is scheduled to play at Olney Thursday at 6:15 p.m., while Red Hill (0-5, 0-4 LIC) is slated to play at Robinson Thursday at 6:15 p.m.
