Red Hill High School's football team got some live reps in during their first official practice of the season Monday evening. Fall sports across the state of Illinois officially opened their seasons Monday, as the IHSA allowed practices to officially begin. The Salukis – who will compete as an independent in football this season after leaving the Little Illini Conference – are preparing for their season opener, which is set for Aug. 26 at 7 p.m. at Cerro Gordo. High school practices officially begin

Lawrence County Youth Football kicked off its inaugural season by participating in a preseason "Jamboree" at Palestine Saturday (Aug. 6). The league has players from both Lawrenceville and Red Hill school districts competing on the teams, which include 7th/8th, 5th/6th and 3rd/4th. Above, the 7th/8th grade team is pictured, while below is the 5th/6th grade team after they finished competing in Palestine. Lawrence County will open the regular season Saturday (Aug. 13), when they host Newton at Ed Loeb Field in Lawrenceville. The 5th/6th grade game is slated to kick off at 5:30 p.m., followed by the 7th/8th grade game around 7:30 p.m. Contributed photos

Lawrence County Youth Football set to open season

The 34th annual Red Hill Jr. Pro Football camp was held last week at Red Hill High School in Bridgeport. A record 93 campers from third through ninth grade attended the camp, which was conducted by the RHHS coaching staff. Campers learned basic football skills, while also competing against each other in a variety of events. In addition, former RHHS players Drew Moore and Drew Gognat, who now play at Depauw University and Illinois College, respectively, were guest speakers at the camp. Contributed photo
