New LHS girls coach Dreiman inherits young, hard-working squad

LAWRENCEVILLE –– Getting a new coach can be a new start for a program and that is the hope for Lawrenceville High School’s girls’ basketball team. The Lady Indians have a new head coach in Karlie Dreiman, who is also in her first year as a high school coach after coaching middle school basketball and soccer at South Knox for the past few years, while they will feature a small and relatively young group with just one senior and one junior among the 14 players in the program.

Following the best season in recent years for Red Hill High School’s football team, one Saluki has received some postseason accolades as a result of his play on the field this past season. Senior running back/defensive back Jacob Powden was recently named as one of 18 players named to the Illinois High School Football Coaches Association’s Class 1A All-State Team.

Wrestling team has high hopes

A young but experienced group will lead Lawrence County’s high school wrestling team on the mats this season, but that has not lowered the expectations by any means. All four boys who qualified for Sectional competition last season – two of whom advanced to state – are back, along with several other quality returners and some promising newcomers, which has head coach Sam Hyre excited about the season.

Two Red Hill volleyball players earn All-LOVC honors

BRIDGEPORT –– Two members of Red Hill High School’s volleyball team were recognized for their play on the court this past season, as they were named to the All-Little Okaw Valley Conference teams recently.
