PJHS boys wins five of six, RHJH wins one of four recently



A busy stretch saw Parkview Junior High School’s boys’ basketball teams pick up wins in five of six games recently, while Red Hill managed just one win in four contests and it came by the narrowest of margins.

Against Mt. Carmel Nov. 16, Parkview split games, winning the eighth grade contest 47-33 and losing the seventh grade game 50-19.

In the eighth grade game, PJHS jumped out to a 15-0 lead after one quarter, led 25-10 at halftime and 38-22 after three quarters before Mt. Carmel won the fourth period 11-9 to reach the final totals.

Jayden Goff led PJHS with 14 points, while Noah Wilson tossed in 12, Hunter Gray netted eight, Zander Cessna scored seven and Emery Ivers added six.

In the seventh grade game, PJHS trailed 11-7 after one quarter, then found themselves down 26-12 at halftime. The deficit grew to 38-17 after three quarters, then PJHS was outscored 12-2 in the fourth quarter to reach the final margin.

Westin Hunt led PJHS with five points, while Luke Schultz and Isaac Vennard scored four points apiece and Bobby Duffy, Liam Morey and Nox Gray each netted two.

At Martinsville Nov. 18, Parkview scored a sweep, winning the eighth grade game 50-2 and the seventh grade game 37-11.

In the eighth grade game, PJHS led 16-2 after one quarter, then outscored Martinsville 8-0 in the second period, 15-0 in the third quarter and 11-0 in the fourth quarter to pull away for the win.

Braydon Morrison and Kain Swanson led PJHS with seven points apiece, while Neilan Bickers scored six, Aiden Winningham, Aiden Crawford, Cash Grove, Brodey Rogers, Jacek Mickiewicz, Stephen Killion and Goff tossed in four points apiece and Zach Coffey added two.

In the seventh grade game, PJHS led 14-2 after one quarter, 18-4 at halftime and 29-11 after three quarters, then won the fourth quarter 11-0 to reach the final margin.

Nox Gray led PJHS with 13 points, while Duffy scored 10, Vennard tossed in eight and Morey, Schultz and Hunt each netted two.

Also on Nov. 18, Red Hill split games with Robinson, winning the eighth grade game 30-29 and losing the seventh grade game 41-15.

In the eighth grade game, RHJH trailed 8-2 after one quarter and 16-13 at halftime, but rallied to take a 23-22 lead heading into the final period. Robinson responded with seven straight points to start the fourth quarter, taking a 29-23 lead, but the Salukis responded by scoring the final seven points of the game, including the game-winning jumper from Ozzy Ash with 25 seconds remaining.

Ash led RHJH with 15 points, while Avery Arbuckle scored 10, Brennan Potts tossed in four and Holden Jacobsen added one.

In the seventh grade game, RHJH fell behind 18-1 after one quarter, was down 22-5 at halftime and trailed 37-9 after three quarters before winning the fourth quarter 6-4 to reach the final totals.

Marcus Davis led RHJH with 12 points, while D.J. Brashear scored three.
On Monday, the county squads squared off against each other in Bridgeport, with Parkview winning both games. The Braves took the eighth grade game 39-22, while winning the seventh grade contest 20-16.

In the eighth grade game, PJHS jumped out to a 14-5 lead after one quarter, extended the lead to 23-9 at halftime and 33-13 after three quarters before Red Hill won the fourth quarter 9-6 to reach the final margin.

Wilson and Ivers led PJHS (7-1) with 10 points apiece, while Cessna tossed in six, Goff scored five, Hunter Gray netted four and Winningham and Coffey each added two.

Elijah Stitt led RHJH (4-3) with seven points, while Ash scored six, Brennan Potts netted four, Cohen Trainer and Clayton Potts added two points apiece and Jacobsen added one.

In the seventh grade game, PJHS held a 5-4 edge after one quarter, led 12-9 at halftime and 18-13 after three quarters, then held on to win despite being outscored 3-2 in the fourth quarter.

Vennard led PJHS (5-3) with eight points, while Duffy and Schultz each scored four and Nox Gray and Hunt added two points apiece.

Davis led RHJH (1-3) with 10 points, while Levi McCullough netted three and Brashear, Layton Moore and Collin Greer each scored one.

Parkview will play host to Robinson Monday at 6 p.m., while Red Hill will next play at home against Marshall Thursday, Dec. 2, at 6 p.m.

Meanwhile, local junior high girls’ basketball teams wrapped up their regular seasons recently.

Red Hill lost its regular season finale to Olney St. Joe Nov. 17, 28-16.

Caitlee Gray led RHJH with 11 points, while Baylee McDaniel netted three and Riley Moore and Alaynah Hulfachor each scored one.

Parkview also dropped a pair of games, losing to Flora (30-16) Nov. 16 and North Knox (39-7) on Nov. 18. No other information was available.

Red Hill (7-7) will play Effingham St. Anthony in the first round of the IESA Class 2A Teutopolis 8th Grade Regional Tuesday at 7:15 p.m., while Parkview (3-15) will take on Paris Mayo in the first round of the IESA Class 3A Paris Mayo 8th Grade Regional Monday at 7:30 p.m.
