CHARLESTON –– Two more rounds of throwing resulted in an 11th-place finish for Red Hill High School’s Kamee Lytle at the IHSA Class 1A Track State Finals at Eastern Illinois University’s O’Brien Stadium in Charleston.

Lytle, who advanced to state after finishing second at the Altamont Sectional May 11, competed along with 30 more of the best throwers in the state and nearly finished in the top 10 and was just shy of earning a medal.

In Thursday’s preliminary round, Lytle posted a distance of 116-9.25 to place her 11th out of 31 competitors and since she was among the top-12 finishers, she advanced to Saturday’s final round.

Unfortunately, Lytle was unable to improve on her best throw from Thursday and remained in 11th place at the end of the competition. Lytle also had to endure a two-hour weather delay before being able to throw as well.

Still, Lytle was less than a foot from reaching the medal stand, as Farmington’s Anna Webel and Salt Fork’s Olivia Birge tied for the final podium spot with throws of 117-6.5. Winning the state championship was Olivia Campbell of Pittsfield with a distance of 139-4.
