A slow start prevented Red Hill High School’s boys’ basketball team from continuing their winning ways Tuesday night, as they saw their two-game winning streak snapped with a 65-50 loss at Marshall in Little Illini Conference play.

The Salukis could not keep pace with the hot-shooting Lions, who opened the game on a 6-0 run and never trailed in the game. Red Hill found themselves down 19-12 after one quarter and 32-25 at halftime, then Marshall outscored RHHS 19-10 in the third quarter to make the score 51-35 heading into the final period. Red Hill won the fourth quarter 15-14, but it was too little, too late.

Andrew Maxfield led RHHS with 16 points, while Anthony Jerrell also reached double figures with 11. Ben Stimler contributed nine points, Hayden Arbuckle netted six, Jacob Powden scored five and Drayden Pentell added three.

Landon Boatman led Marshall with 19 points, including five three-pointers, while Nick Brown tossed in 18 and Logan Medsker drained three three-pointers on his way to scoring 17 points.

Red Hill also lost the junior varsity game 33-21.

Payton Seaney led RHHS with six points, while Powden scored five.

Red Hill (6-13, 1-5 LIC) will play Lawrenceville in the opening round of the LIC Tournament Friday at 6 p.m. in Casey.
