Salukis hold on to beat OPH, 55-53

BRIDGEPORT –– Quantity over quality appeared to be the theme for Red Hill and Oblong-Palestine-Hutsonville’s boys’ basketball teams in their Little Okaw Valley Conference contest in Brigdeport Tuesday. The two teams needed 109 field goal attempts – including 60 three-point tries – to total 108 points in the game and when the dust settled, the Salukis had held on – barely – for a 55-53 win.

A slow start prevented Red Hill High School’s boys’ basketball team from continuing their winning ways Tuesday night, as they saw their two-game winning streak snapped with a 65-50 loss at Marshall in Little Illini Conference play.

Offensive struggles continue to plague Lawrenceville High School’s girls’ basketball team. During the recent Little Illini Conference Tournament, the Lady Indians went 1-2 and scored a total of 77 points in those three games, including 29 total in a pair of losses. The latest of those defeats came Wednesday, Jan. 19, as the Lady Indians fell to Newton, 48-20, in a consolation semifinal.
