Legendary daredevil Evel Knievel was a hit with the younger set during his participation in the 1972 Robinson Golf Open as this Daily News photo shows. Unfortunately, his back is turned to the camera as he signs autographs. Another photo was more close up but featured the faces of his fans — and a blurry view of the back of Knievel's head. Perhaps the man gutsy enough to attempt jumping the Snake River Canyon strapped inside a rocket cycle was a bit camera shy during his time here.

A Daily News photograph from September 1972 shows Brian Mikes, instructor of culinary arts at Lincoln Trail College, welcoming Giuseppe Onorio Cucinella to Robinson. “Joe,” a native of Sicily, had recently moved here from Mt. Carmel and opened a new restaurant at 1000 S. Cross. He remains in business to this day, although Joe's Pizza is now on East Main. A second photo shows Cucinella molding pizza dough by throwing in the air. Daily News staffers gobbled down the finished product.
