In Thursday’s doubleheader, the First National Bank Cubs downed the Subway/Midwest Transport Diamondbacks in game one, 11-1.
The Cubs opened the scoring with six runs in the top of the first, then after the Diamondbacks scored a run in the bottom of the first, the Cubs scored five more in the top of the second to complete the scoring.
Brody Keesling and Brysen Legg led the Cubs with two singles, two runs batted in and two runs scored apiece, while Lucas Blessing singled twice, scored two runs and drove in a run. Wyatt Cooper posted a base hit and two runs batted in, Braylon Murray singled and scored two runs, Joel York added a base hit, a run batted in and a run scored and Kaden Hout and Cole Rehmel each scored a run.
Blessing was the winning pitcher, allowing one run on two hits, while walking one and striking out four in two innings of work. Keesling walked one and struck out two in a scoreless inning of relief and Murray struck out five of the six batters he faced in two perfect frames.
Rowan Bailey led the Diamondbacks with a double and a run scored, while Ian Schmidt singled and drove in a run.
Jasper Sweitzer was the losing pitcher, allowing 11 runs (eight earned) on eight hits, while walking three and striking out two in one-plus innings of work. Schmidt gave up one hit, walked three and struck out six in three and two-thirds scoreless innings of relief, while Ben Patchett retired the only batter he faced in one-third of an inning.
In game two, the Dog N Suds/Weber Title White Sox rallied in their final at-bat to knock off the Wright’s Furniture and Flooring Yankees, 8-7.
The White Sox trailed 7-4 heading into the bottom of the fifth, but scored four times in the inning, with Colton Shipman’s walk-off, inside-the-park home run providing the winning margin.
Shipman led the White Sox with his home run and four runs batted in, while Gunner Hoalt singled, drove in two runs and scored a run, Reid Van Schoyck singled and scored a run, Sailor Musselwhite knocked in a run and scored a run, Jack Grimm scored two runs and Hayden Bonnell and Daniel Barnbrook each scored a run.
Bonnell picked up the win in relief, allowing five runs on seven hits, while walking two and striking out four in three innings of work. Hoalt allowed two runs on one hit, while walking one and striking out five in two innings of work.
Caden Goodwin led the Yankees with two singles, two runs scored and a run batted in, while Zach Chamblin singled twice and scored two runs. Landyn Bonnell singled twice, drove in a run and scored a run, Brayden Turner singled and drove in a run, Jameson Dix singled and scored a run, Lex Herder knocked in a run and Peyton Armstrong scored a run.
Bonnell was the losing pitcher, allowing eight runs (six earned) on three hits, while walking seven and striking out 11 in four and one-third innings of work.
