Extreme teams bring home hardware from USSSA Great Lakes Nationals

Five teams from the Extreme travel softball organization based in Flat Rock competed at the USSSA Great Lakes Nationals in Evansville last week and they all brought home some hardware, whether it was individual or team-based.

The big winner of the week was the 12-under team, which went a perfect 9-0 in the week-long tournament and secured a national championship in a field of 19 teams.
Pool play began Tuesday, July 12, with Eagles JQ of Mt. Vernon, Ind. (12-0) and Southern Kentucky Static (4-3).
Against Eagles, Kinli Michl (Dieterich) led Extreme with two singles, two runs batted in and two runs scored, while Laney Scherer (Haubstadt, Ind.) singled twice, knocked in two runs and scored a run. Gracie Alumbaugh (Palestine) singled twice and drove in a run, Olivia Lewis (Vincennes) singled twice and scored a run, Paige Wagner (Newton) singled and scored two runs, Jaclyn Miller (Vincennes) singles, drove in a run and scored a run, Jocelyn Tuley (Poseyville, Ind.) singled and scored a run, Danika Phillips (West Salem) added a base hit, Klaira Strohm (Robinson) scored two runs and Braelyn Gladish (Vincennes) and Eva Brashear (Flat Rock) each scored a run.
Phillips was the winning pitcher, allowing three hits, walking three and striking out seven in four scoreless innings of work.
Against Static, Extreme broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the bottom of the fourth, only for Static to score three times in the top of the fifth to take a 3-2 lead. However, Extreme rallied for two more runs in the bottom of the fifth and held on for the win.
Wagner led Extreme with two singles, a run batted in and a run scored, while Strohm singled and knocked in two runs, Michl tripled and drove in a run, Lewis doubled and scored a run, Scherer singled and scored a run and Phillips scored a run.
Miller was the winning pitcher, allowing three runs on 11 hits and striking out six in six innings of work.
On Wednesday, July 13, Extreme scored two more wins in pool play, beating Western Kentucky Havoc (12-0) and Nashville (Tenn.) Cruisers (5-1).
Against Havoc, Alumbaugh led Extreme with a triple, a double and four runs batted in, while Scherer singled twice, knocked in a run and scored a run. Gladish singled twice and scored a run, Lewis tripled, drove in three runs and scored a run, Wagner and Michl each singled and scored two runs, Strohm added a base hit, a run batted in and a run scored, Tuley scored three runs and Brashear scored a run.
Phillips was the winning pitcher, allowing three hits and striking out four in three scoreless frames.
Against Cruisers, Wagner led Extreme with two singles and a run scored, while Scherer posted a base hit and a run batted in, Tuley and Lewis each singled and scored a run, Miller added a base hit, Gladish knocked in a run and scored a run and Strohm scored a run.
Miller was the winning pitcher, allowing an unearned run on seven hits, while walking one and striking out two in six innings of work.
Tournament play began Thursday, July 14, with Extreme scoring two more wins over Indiana Gators Arnold (12-0) and South Gibson Diamond Queens (2-0).
Against Gators, Michl led Extreme with two doubles, three runs batted in and a run scored, while Wagner tripled, singled, knocked in two runs and scored two runs. Scherer singled three times and scored three runs, Alumbaugh doubled twice and knocked in two runs, Gladish singled and scored two runs, Tuley added a base hit, a run batted in and a run scored, Lewis singled and drove in a run, Brashear knocked in a run and Strohm scored a run.
Phillips was the winning pitcher, striking out two in two hitless innings of work. Miller tossed the final frame, giving up a hit and striking out one.
Against Diamond Queens, Extreme scored a run in the first, then tacked on another in the bottom of the fifth to seal the win.
Sanders led Extreme with a triple, a single, a run batted in and a run scored, while Lewis singled twice and scored a run and Gladish drove in a run.
Phillips was the winning pitcher, tossing a no-hitter. She allowed just one walk and struck out seven in five innings.
In their lone game Friday (July 15), Extreme downed New Jersey Gators, 9-2.
Scherer led Extreme with a two-run home run, while Wagner doubled, singled and scored two runs, Brashear doubled, scored two runs and drove in a run, Tuley knocked in two runs and Gladish, Michl and Lewis each scored a run.
Phillips was the winning pitcher, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out four in three innings of work.
In Saturday’s semifinal, Extreme beat Fusion-Webb of Lynnville, Ind., 6-4. Extreme scored four runs in the top of the first to take an early lead and led 6-0 heading into the bottom of the third before holding off a late rally to secure the win.
Tuley led Extreme with a double, a single, a run batted in and a run scored, while Brashear and Scherer posted a double, a single and a run scored apiece, Michl doubled, knocked in two runs and scored a run, Lewis and Strohm each singled and drove in a run and Gladish and Wagner added a single and a run scored apiece.
Phillips was the winning pitcher, allowing four runs (three earned) on eight hits, while walking one and striking out three in five innings.
In the championship game later Saturday, Extreme downed Wheatland Spikes-Dunn from Aurora, 8-3. The game was tied 2-2 heading into the bottom of the fifth, but Extreme erupted for six runs to take the lead for good.
Scherer led Extreme with a double, two singles, two runs scored and a run batted in, while Michl doubled twice, knocked in a run and scored a run. Wagner tripled, singled, drove in a run and scored a run, Gladish singled twice, knocked in two runs and scored a run, Alumbaugh doubled and knocked in a run, Lewis doubled and scored a run, Tuley doubled and drove in a run and Brashear singled and scored a run.
Phillips was the winning pitcher, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits, while walking one and striking out 12 in seven innings of work.
During their nine-game undefeated run, Extreme outscored their opponents by a combined score of 70-13. The team also received the Most Valuable Team Award and the Team Offensive Award for their efforts.
Extreme finished its season with a 22-2 record.
In the 16-under tournament, Extreme posted an 8-2 record and came away with a third-place team finish in a field of 27 teams.
Extreme went 4-0 in pool play, opening with a win over Indiana Storm (8-2) on July 12.
Addi Adams (Martinsville) led Extreme with a double, a single and a run batted in, while Madelyn Garza (Lawrenceville) singled twice, drove in two runs and scored a run. Marli Michl (Dieterich) singled twice, knocked in a run and scored a run, Kenzie Babbs (Casey) singled and drove in two runs, Ally Crist (Bruceville, Ind.), Addy Alton (Vincennes), Kate Jones (Vincennes) and Paige Hill (Bridgeport) added a base hit and a run scored apiece, Addison McNair (Palestine) singled and Raegan Manhart (Robinson) scored two runs.
Michl was the winning pitcher, allowing two runs on five hits, while walking two and striking out six in five innings of work.
On July 13, Extreme beat Washington (Ill.) Cobras (11-5) and Evansville Renegades (10-3).
Against Cobras, Alton led Extreme with a double, two singles, two runs batted in and a run scored, while Garza doubled twice, knocked in two runs and scored two runs. Adams tripled, singled and scored drove in a run, McNair singled twice, knocked in a run and scored a run, Manhart singled twice and scored two runs, Crist singled, drove in two runs and scored a run, Michl added a base hit, a run batted in and a run scored, Kahre McCrary (Vincennes) singled and scored a run and Jones scored a run.
Michl was the winning pitcher, allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits, while walking six and striking out four in four innings of work.
Against Renegades, McNair led Extreme with three singles and three runs batted in, while Manhart singled three times and scored three runs. Garza singled twice, scored two runs and drove in a run, Adams singled twice and knocked in a run, Michl singled twice and scored a run, Jones added a pair of base hits, Alton doubled, knocked in a run and scored a run, Crist singled, scored twice and drove in a run and McCrary added a base hit, a run batted in and a run scored.

In their first tournament game July 14, Extreme edged St. Louis Pirates 14U, 7-6 in extra innings on a two-run, walk-off single by Manhart in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Manhart led Extreme with a triple, two singles, three runs batted in and a run scored, while Crist singled twice and drove in a run, McNair doubled and knocked in two runs, Alton doubled and scored two runs, Jones scored two runs and McCrary and Garza each scored a run.
Michl was the winning pitcher, allowing six runs (five earned) on 10 hits, while walking four and striking out two in seven innings of work.
On Friday, Extreme lost to BNGSA Avalanche from Normal, Ill., 8-6, but rebounded to beat Legacy from Fredericktown, Ohio, 4-3, to stay alive in the tournament.
Against Avalanche, Extreme led 4-3 after an inning and was up 6-4 going into the bottom of the fourth, but Avalanche rallied for three in their half of the fourth to take the lead and added an insurance run in the fifth.
Michl led Extreme with a triple, two singles, a run batted in and a run scored, while Adams singled twice and knocked in two runs, McNair singled twice, drove in a run and scored a run, Manhart and Alton posted a base hit and a run scored apiece and Crist and McCrary each scored a run.
Michl was the losing pitcher, giving up eight runs (four earned) on nine hits, while walking one and striking out three in five innings of work.
Against Legacy, Extreme built an early 3-0 lead, only to see Legacy tie the game, but Extreme was able to push across the eventual winning run in the bottom of the fifth.
Michl led Extreme with a single and two runs scored, while Crist and Alton posted a base hit and a run batted in apiece, Manhart singled and scored a run, McCrary added a base hit and Jones scored a run.
Michl earned the win in relief, allowing two hits and striking out one in one and one-third innings of work. Hill started and went four and two-thirds innings, giving up three runs (one earned) on seven hits and striking out three.
Later Friday, Extreme slipped past Evansville Bomb Squad, 9-8. Crist led Extreme with two singles, a run batted in and a run scored, while Adams singled twice and knocked in a run. Garza doubled and drove in three runs, Michl singled and scored two runs, Jones singled and scored a run, McNair added a base hit, Alton knocked in a run and scored a run and Manhart and McCrary each scored a run.
Hill was credited with the win in relief, allowing four runs on six hits, while walking one and striking out one in two and one-third innings of work. Michl started and went two and two-thirds innings, giving up four runs (one earned) on four hits and a walk.
On Saturday, Extreme opened with wins over St. Louis Pirates 16U (9-4) and Evansville Shockwaves (9-3) before losing to Tennessee Mojo-Hutchinson (3-2) to end their run.
Against Pirates 16U, Manhart led Extreme with three singles, three runs batted in and two runs scored, while Jones singled twice, knocked in two runs and scored two runs. Garza singled, drove in two runs and scored a run, McNair singled, drove in a run and scored a run, McCrary singled and scored a run, Michl and Adams added a base hit apiece and Crist knocked in a run and scored a run.
Michl was the winning pitcher, allowing four runs on seven hits with four walks and four strikeouts in four innings of work.
Against Shockwaves, Manhart led Extreme with a triple, two singles, two runs scored and a run batted in, while McCrary doubled, singled, knocked in a run and scored a run, Garza singled twice, drove in a run and scored a run, Jones singled and scored two runs, Michl and Crist each singled, drove in a run and scored a run and Alton singled and scored a run.

In the semifinals Saturday, Extreme fell just short in a 3-2 loss to TN Mojo-Hutchinson out of New Palestine, Ind.
Adams led Extreme with two singles and a run batted in, while Garza singled and drove in a run, Manhart singled and scored a run, Michl and Alton added a base hit apiece and Babbs scored a run.
Hill was the losing pitcher, allowing three runs on five hits, while walking two and striking out one in three innings of work. Michl tossed the final two frames, giving up one hit and two walks.
TN Mojo-Hutchinson went on to win the tournament, defeating Missouri Gators twice to claim the title.
Extreme ended the season with a 24-11-1 record.
Meanwhile, the 10-under team also finished third out of 18 teams with a 6-3 record.
Extreme opened pool play with a 3-2 loss to Newburgh (Ind.) Nitro July 12, then rebounded later that day to beat Boonville (Ind.), 11-2.
Against Newburgh, Kendra Alumbaugh (Palestine) and Tenlea West (Albion) led Extreme with a single and a run scored apiece, while Farryn King (Mt. Carmel), Kenzly Bryan (Olney) and Aleah Carlson (West Salem) posted a base hit apiece and Cameron Sanders (Lawrenceville) knocked in a run.
Kenley Devoy (Fairfield) was the losing pitcher, allowing three runs on two hits, while walking four and striking out eight in four innings.
Against Boonville, King and Bryan led Extreme with a double, a single and a run scored apiece, while Emma Wagner (Newton) singled and scored a run, Alumbaugh scored three runs, Braxtyn Turner (Robinson) scored two runs and West, Carlson and Addison Inboden (Palestine) each scored a run.
Wagner was the winning pitcher, allowing two runs on one hit, while walking three and striking out three in three innings of work.
On July 13, Extreme beat Newburgh ICE (20-1) and Fierce Punishers of Markleville, Ind. (6-5).
Against Newburgh, King led Extreme with two doubles, a single and three runs scored, while Bryan doubled, singled and scored three runs. Sanders doubled, singled twice and scored a run, West singled and scored three runs, Carlson and Bella Hodges (Fairfield) posted a base hit and two runs scored apiece, Devoy singled and scored a run, Alumbaugh scored two runs and Inoden and Collins Whobrey (Vincennes) each scored a run.
Devoy was the winning pitcher, allowing one run on three hits and striking out seven in three innings.
Against Punishers, Extreme overcame a 3-0 deficit with a six-run second inning, then held off a late rally to secure the win.
Bryan and Hodges led Extreme with a single and a run scored apiece, while King and Whobrey each added a base hit and Alumbaugh, Sanders and Wagner each scored a run.
Carlson was the winning pitcher, allowing five runs on one hit, while walking five and striking out seven in three innings of work.
In bracket play July 14, Extreme beat Westfield (Ind.) Mustangs, 3-2, scoring the winning run in the bottom of the fifth.
Alumbaugh led Extreme with a single and two runs scored, while King and Devoy each singled and Sanders scored a run.
No pitching statistics were available.
On Friday, Extreme scored a pair of wins over Indiana Beasts (11-5) and Kentucky Klutch (8-3).
Against Beasts, West led Extreme with two triples and two runs scored, while King tripled, singled and scored two runs. Bryan and Carlson posted a double, a single and two runs scored apiece, Alumbaugh singled and scored two runs, Sanders singled and scored a run and Whobrey added a base hit.
Wagner was the winning pitcher, allowing five runs on one hit, while walking four and striking out four in two innings of work.
Against Klutch, King and Alumbaugh both doubled, singled and scored two runs, while Sanders and West each singled twice, Whobrey singled and scored a run, Bryan doubled, Carlson added a base hit, Hodges scored two runs and Inboden scored a run.
Devoy was the winning pitcher, allowing three runs on three hits with two walks and eight strikeouts in three innings.
Saturday was not as positive, as Extreme lost to South Gibson Heat (11-0) and Kentucky Klutch (3-0) to end their run.
Against Heat, Bryan singled for the only hit in the game.
Pitching statistics were not available.
Against Klutch, Extreme was unable to get a single base runner in the game.
Wagner was the losing pitcher, allowing three runs on three hits, while walking three and striking out seven in three innings.
Extreme finished the season with a 40-14 record.
Extreme’s 18-under team also competed and finished with a 2-4 record in the 11-team tournament.
However, the 18-under team still grabbed some hardware, as the Around the Horn team of Raegan Manhart (Robinson), Kensley Cox (Paris), Amber Russell (Newton), Paige Sanders (Robinson), Mattilynn Ashley (Vincennes) and Maci Smith (Robinson) won the championship, while Russell also won Fastest Runner in the 18-under division.
As for the games, Extreme opened pool play July 12 with a 5-0 win over Southern Indiana Hotshots, but lost their next game to Illiana Kaos, 4-3.
Against Hotshots, Maci Smith (Robinson) led Extreme with a single and two runs batted in, while Kala Goldsworthy (Terre Haute) doubled, knocked in a run and scored a run, Addi Nolley (Logooteee, Ind.) singled and drove in a run, Kensley Cox (Paris) singled and scored a run, Amber Russell (Newton) scored two runs and Ashley scored a run.
Paige Sanders (Robinson) was the winning pitcher, allowing three hits and striking out three in four scoreless innings of work.
Against Kaos, Extreme led 2-1 after two innings and 3-2 after three, but Kaos rallied for two runs in the bottom of the fourth and held on for the win.
Sanders led Extreme with three singles and a run scored, while Goldsworthy doubled and drove in two runs, Maci Smith doubled, knocked in a run and scored a run, Jayden Cravens (Robinson) singled and scored a run and Nolley and MaKenna Smith (Salem) added a base hit apiece.
MaKenna Smith was the losing pitcher, allowing four runs (two earned) on six hits and striking out one in four innings of work.
In their final pool play game July 13, Extreme lost to Indiana Shockwaves 16U, 3-1.
Cadance Brashear (Flat Rock) led Extreme with a single and a run batted in, while Maci Smith singled and scored a run and Cox added a base hit.
Goldsworthy was the losing pitcher, giving up two runs on five hits in two and one-third innings, while MaKenna Smith allowed one run on three hits in two and two-thirds innings.
In their first bracket game Thursday, Extreme beat Southern Indiana Cyclones, 5-2.
Sanders led Extreme with a home run, a single and four runs batted in, while Ashley singled twice and scored two runs, Nolley, Cravens and Goldsworthy posted a base hit apiece and Russell and Maci Smith each scored a run.
Sanders was the winning pitcher, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks in three innings of work. Goldsworthy tossed the final frame to earn the save, giving up one hit.
Unfortunately, Extreme would lost its next two games Thursday, falling to Indiana Shockwaves 16U (4-2) and Southern Indiana Hotshots (4-3).
Against Shockwaves, Maci Smith led Extreme with a solo home run, a single and two runs scored, while Cravens and Ashley posted a base hit apiece and Cox drove in a run.
MaKenna Smith was the losing pitcher, allowing four runs on seven hits, while walking one and striking out two in five innings of work.
Against Hotshots, Extreme led 3-1 heading into the bottom of the fourth, but Hotshots scored a run in the fourth and two in the fifth to pull out the win.
Russell led Extreme with a triple, a single and a run batted in, while Sanders singled three times, MaKenna Smith doubled, knocked in a run and scored a run, Maci Smith singled and scored a run, Cravens added a base hit and Goldsworthy scored a run.
MaKenna Smith was tagged with the loss in relief, giving up an unearned run on one hit in one-third of an inning. Sanders tossed four innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits, while walking four and striking out two.
Extreme ended its season with a 27-16 record.
Extreme’s 14-under team competed as well, finishing 1-5 in the 24-team field.
In pool play, Extreme went 0-3, with losses July 12 to Windy City Rage out of Northbrook (6-2) and Demand Command 13U from Columbus, Ind. (6-2) and another July 13 to Team Impact from Carmi (6-5).
Against Rage, Ashley Anderson (Fairfield) led Extreme with a triple, a run batted in and a run scored, while Grace Bishop (Albion) singled twice and Meghan Miller (Newton) scored a run.
Abby Taylor (Lawrenceville) was the losing pitcher, giving up five runs (two earned) on one hit, while walking seven and striking out one in one and two-thirds innings of work. Addyson Brush (Lawrenceville) went the rest of the way, giving up one run on three hits and striking out one in three and one-third innings of relief.
Against Demand Command, Kyndall Richards (Albion) led Extreme with a triple and a run scored, while Brush doubled and drove in a run, Bishop doubled and Emily Shidler (Robinson) scored a run.
Miller was the losing pitcher, allowing six runs on five hits and seven walks in three innings. Brush worked a scoreless inning, walking three batters.
Against Impact, Extreme fell behind 5-1 after an inning, then tried to rally late, only to fall just short.
Bishop led Extreme with a home run, a double, a single, three runs batted in and two runs scored, while Taylor doubled, singled and scored a run, Richards and Addeline Sanders each singled and drove in a run, Kamryn Remlinger (Martinsville) singled and scored a run, Miller and Anderson each added a base hit and Brush scored a run.
Brush was the losing pitcher, allowing six runs (two earned) on seven hits and striking out one in six innings of work.
In their first bracket game July 14, Extreme lost to Petersburg (Ind.) Swing, 13-0.
Taylor singled for the only hit in the game.

Brush singled twice, knocked in two runs and scored a run, Audrey Worstell (Vincennes) singled, knocked in a run and scored a run, Clara Williams (Olney) drove in a run and Sanders, Bishop, Anderson and Shidler each scored a run.
Miller was the winning pitcher, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits, while walking one and striking out six in five innings of work.
Against Indiana, Bishop singled twice and Miller added a base hit.
Brush was the losing pitcher, allowing eight runs (four earned) on four hits and one walk in two-thirds of an inning. Miller went the rest of the way, giving up three unearned runs on two hits, while walking one and striking out three in two and one-third innings of relief.
The 14-under team also finished second in the Around the Horn competition earlier in the week.
Extreme ended its season with a 10-19-2 record.
