High school graduations are over for another year and already mementos of the Class of 2022 are being filed away for safe keeping.
One such keepsake from a much earlier time was recently unearthed by a Hardinville woman, bringing back memories of students who attended Oblong Township High School a century ago.
Linda Price was recently going through belongings of her mother, the late Ruby Maus. Among the items was a small envelope containing a graduation announcement for the OTHS Class of 1922.
Included in the announcement was the time, date and location of graduation — 8 p.m. Friday, June 2, at the Central Methodist Episcopal Church — and a list of 43 graduates.
The class motto — “Deeds not words” — is listed. So are the class flower and colors — the American Beauty Rose and “primrose and navy,” respectively.
There is also a card bearing the name of Price’s uncle, Clinton Wilkin.
Dr. Wilkin was a dentist in Oblong for many years. He, along  with Price’s aunt, Nina Maus, were members of that long-ago graduating class.
The two graduates are gone now. Wilkin died March 29, 1982. Maus, whose married name was also Price, followed Dec. 23, 1994.
However, their graduation announcment — and the memories of them and their classmates — remain and will soon have a new home.
Price intends to donate the announcement to the Crawford County Historical Society, which also has a 1922 OTHS yearbook.
