Local farmers produe millions of bushels of crops



Crawford County farmers produced almost 14.7 million bushels of corn and more than 5 million bushels of soybeans last year.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, farmers averaged 180.1 bushels of corn per acre. They also harvested an average of 55.4 bushels of beans per acre.

A total of 82,900 acres were planted in corn last spring and harvested 81,500 acres for grain in the fall. Another 93,000 acres were planted in beans and 92,500 acres were harvested for grain.

In Clark County, farmers planted 95,700 acres in corn and harvested 96,600 acres. The average yield was 177.7 bushels per acre. Total production was more than 18.8 million bushels.

They planted 94,300 acres in beans and harvested 92,500 of those acres for grain. The average yield was 57.4 bushels per acre and production was almost 5.4 million.

Jasper County growers planted 98,200 acres in corn and harvested 93,900 acres. The average yield was 200.4 bushels per acre. Production was almost 17.2 million bushels.

A total of 119,000 acres there were planted in soybeans and 118,400 acres were harvested. The average yield was 53.6 bushels per acre and production totaled almost 6.35 million bushels.

Lawrence County farmers planted 72,700 acres in corn and harvested 71,500 acres. The average yield was 171.3 bushels per acre. Total production was almost 12.25 million bushels.

A total of 85,500 acres were planted in beans and 85,100 acres were harvested. The average yield was 56.9 bushels per acre. Production was more than 4.8 million bushels.

Statewide, 11.3 million acres were planted in corn and 10.3 million were planted in soybeans. A total of 11.1 million acres of corn and 10.25 million acres of beans were harvested.

Average corn yield was 192 bushels per acre and production was more than 2.1 billion bushels.

Average bean yield was 59 bushels per acre and production was 604.75 million bushels.
