Although high school baseball season ended just a couple of weeks ago for area teams, many were back on the diamond this week to play in a new summer league that was recently created.
Among those teams playing in the new Southern Illinois Prospect League is Robinson, who opened play Monday with a rain-soaked win over Teutopolis (3-2), then split games at Olney Wednesday, losing the opener 6-4 and winning the second game 6-3.

If weather and time allows, teams will play one seven-inning game that is counted toward league standings, while a second game – usually five innings – will follow.
In Monday’s game, Teutopolis opened the scoring with two runs in the top of the first, while Robinson rallied for two runs in the third to tie the game. The Maroons then scored the winning run in the bottom of the fourth and the game was called after five innings due to deteriorating field conditions.
Wesley Jackson led RHS at the plate with a single, a run batted in and a run scored, while Brayden Shipman singled and drove in a run, Chayse Aldrich singled and scored a run, Trenton Adams added a base hit and Cole Weber scored a run.
Shipman also earned the win in relief, allowing two hits, walking one and striking out one in two scoreless frames. Garrett Winterrowd started and went two innings, giving up two unearned runs on two hits and two walks, while Aldrich struck out two batters in a scoreless inning of relief.
At Olney Wednesday, Robinson fell behind early in game one, trailing 2-0 after an inning and 5-1 after two. Each team scored a run in the third inning to make the score 6-2, then Robinson rallied for two runs in the sixth and managed to get the potential tying run to the plate in the seventh, but were unable to get any more runs across.
Wesley Liston led RHS with a triple, a single and a run batted in, while Mason Lewis singled, scored two runs and drove in a run, Julian Parker singled and knocked in a run, Landen Miller and Brysen Legg added a base hit and a run scored apiece and Judson Pinkston drove in a run.
Lewis was tagged with the loss on the mound, allowing four runs (three earned) on two hits and three walks in one and one-third innings of work. Aldrich gave up two runs (one earned) on two hits, walked two and struck out one in one and two-thirds innings of relief and Shipman allowed two hits and struck out five in three scoreless innings of work.
In game two, Robinson trailed 3-2 after one inning, then rallied for four runs in the second to take the lead for good. The game was called after four innings of play.
Winterrowd led the RHS offense with a single, a run batted in and a run scored, while Jackson and Aldrich each singled and scored a run, Adams and Legg netted a run batted in apiece and Shipman, Pinkston and Liston each scored a run.
Parker was the winning pitcher, allowing three runs (one earned) on two hits, while walking two and striking out one in two innings of work. Winterrowd finished up, striking out three of the six batters he faced in two perfect frames to earn the save.
Robinson (2-1) is slated to play host to Olney Wednesday at 5 p.m., then will travel to Lawrenceville to take on the Lawrence County co-op team Thursday at 5 p.m.
