Two more Crawford County Christmas traditions make comebacks this weekend.
Leaverton Park Lighting
Leaverton Park in Palestine will turn on its annual Christmas lighting display at 7 p.m. Friday. A fireworks show will also begin at 7 p.m. and Santa will be at the park gate to wish everyone a Merry Christmas as they leave.
The lighting display continues through New  Year’s Day and will feature the park’s new LED lights.
On the other hand, several regular features of the event are not planned for this year.
The annual bean dinner and the free cookies and hot chocolate usually offered are canceled for this year and children will not have the chance to meet with Santa to tell him their Christmas wishes.
Ther ewill be no caroling, either.
Christmas on the River
Christmas on the River, sponsored by the Hutsonville Lighting Committee, is 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday.
Activities include a cookie walk in the Hutsonville Community Center and a soup supper at the Hutsonville Fire Department. Both begin at 5 p.m. On the menu for the supper is chili, vegetable, loaded baked potato and chicken and wild rice soups. Dessert and drinks also available, all for a freewill donation
Kids can also drop off pre-written letters to Santa in the community center. The child’s name and return address should be included in order to receive a fun response letter from Santa to be sent in December.
A Christmas basket filled with donations from local businesses will be raffled off at the community center.
A candy cane hunt in the downtown ball diamond starts at 5:30 p.m.
Candy and s’mores will be available near the bonfire sponsored by the Crawford County Jeep Crawlers.
A country store in the old village hall building will be sponsored by the Hutsonville Historical Society. The Wabash Coffee House will offer food specials including turkey, noodles and hot chocolate.
Hutsonville Fire Chief Gregg Cox and his wife, Rhonda, will light the big village Christmas tree be at 7 p.m. A lighted golf cart/ATV/Jeep parade from the Hutsonville Park through downtown will follow.
Santa will arrive by firetruck to finish out the parade and will then meet with children in the community center.
