Pair of fatal traffic crashes occur in Clark County


 

 

A pair of fatal traffic accidents occurred in Clark County over the weekend as reported by the Illinois State Police.
The first crash occurred on Interstate 70 near milepost 152 on Aug. 6 at approximately 3:16 a.m.
Reports indicate that a 2021 yellow Peterbilt truck-tractor, being driven by Duane Jones, 45, Dayton, Ohio, and a 2011 yellow freightliner truck-tractor semi-trailer combination, being driven by Claude Watson, 60, St. Louis, Missouri, were both traveling east on Interstate 70 near milepost 152 in Clark County. The Jones vehicle was in the right lane and the Watson vehicle was in the left lane. As Watson was passing Jones, Jones crossed the centerline and made contact with Watson. Both vehicles left the roadway to the right, crossing a ditch and traveling through a steel fence. The Watson vehicle overturned, landed on the driver’s side and caught fire in a field. The Jones vehicle came to rest upright in the field.
Watson was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Clark County Coroner. Jones was uninjured.
Jones as cited for improper lane usage.
The ISP is also investigating a two vehicle fatal traffic crash on Illinois Route 1 near Douglas Road in Clark County which occurred at approximately 5:21 p.m. on Aug. 7.
Preliminary reports indicate that a white 2007 Chrysler Town and Country van, being driven by Jeremiah T. Boswell, 26, Marshall, was traveling north on Illinois Route 1, near Douglas Road while a red 2019 Kia Soul, being driven by an unidentified 50 year old female from Indianapolis, Indiana, was traveling south on Illinois Route 1, near Douglas Road when the Boswell vehicle attempted to make a left turn into a driveway and crossed into the path of the Kia.
Both drivers were transported to a regional hospital with injuries.
The driver of the Kia was pronounced deceased after arriving at the hospital.
Boswell was cited for improper lane usage.
