Obituaries

Paul D. Becktell, 77, Robinson, died Saturday April 3, 2021 at his residence following a long battle with cancer.
Born April 12, 1943 in Robinson, he was the son of Clarence Jr. and Mary J. (Lackey) Becktell. On Dec. 21, 1963 he married Mary Jane (Price) and she survives.
Paul did Tank Farm Maintenance for Marathon Oil Company, Robinson Refinery, Robinson. Mr. Becktell formerly worked at L.S. Heath and Sons Candy Plant before enlisting in the Illinois National Guard in 1964. First and foremost, Paul was a family man. He enjoyed camping, traveling and was the #1 fan of Becktell Brothers Racing Team. He and Mary Jane could be found traveling the hi-ways and by-ways on their Honda Gold Wing Trike on nice days and at other times, Paul could be found in his woodworking shop or at the other shop helping Donnie and Kevin with motorcycles, dirt bikes, four-wheelers and any other contraption with an engine. Paul and Mary Jane were active in the Illinois Patriot Guard until Paul’s health began to fail.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane Becktell, Robinson, two sons and daughters-in-law Donnie and Melissa Becktell, Robinson, and Kevin and Amber Becktell, Robinson; four grandchildren Shelby Cassidy, Sara Brashear, Emily Hughes and Ryder Becktell along with a great-grandson Cade Wesner and several nieces and nephew.
Preceding him in death were his parents and an aunt that lived with Paul and Mary Jane, Mrs. Oma Lackey.
A Celebration of Paul’s life will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday June 13, 2021 at the Pulliam Funeral Home, Oblong. Public visitation will be held from Noon till the time of service at the funeral home. A private family burial will follow the service. Military Rites will be conducted by the Oblong American Legion Post #219.
In lieu of flower the family requests that a sign of sympathy may take the form of a contribution to the Crawford County Humane Shelter, the Oblong Nutrition on Weekends Program or to the Oblong Community Unit #4 Free Lunch Program with envelopes at or may be mailed to Pulliam Funeral Home P.O. Box 121 Oblong, IL.
