Robinson, Sep. 2, 1933 - Ill. — Apr. 18, 2022Paul Terry, 88, of Robinson, IL, passed away on Monday, April 18, 2022, at Robinson Rehab & Nursing. He was born September 2, 1933, in Robinson, the son of James & Cora (Simons) Terry. He grew up in the Robinson area and was a 1951 graduate of Robinson High School. He would go on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and spent 18 months stationed in Japan, where he worked in the supply office. By the time he was honorably discharged in April of 1955, he had attained the rank of corporal.

Back home, he worked at Briggs Pottery for a time but soon found his niche as a TV repairman. Though the name often changed on the sign (Marley Harrison & Son, Tindall's, Sears, Faro's), one thing never did: Paul's talent and commitment to excellence. The skill with which he worked on electronics made it hard to believe that the man was entirely self-taught! By the time he retired from Faro's at the age of 65, he had serviced countless televisions, serving many, many area families in the process. Though he "retired", he still worked from home in his shop for a time.

Much of his retirement years found Paul traveling. He took bus trips to destinations like Cape Cod, Niagara Falls, Martha's Vineyard, and Mackinaw Island, and these opened his eyes to the beauty of the world around him. His favorite spot, however, was Gatlinburg, TN. Here, he would sight-see, take in a show or two, and would regularly head west to Nashville, where he would walk around the Nashville Flea Market or enjoy the Grand Ole Opry.

Back home, he enjoyed oil painting, a pastime that brought color to his life. It was evident that Paul's life was lived following Jesus. Though he was a member of the New Hebron Church of Christ, his 88 years were marked by a faith that has led him into eternal communion with his Heavenly Father. Until we meet again!

He married Donna Sappingfield while on leave on October 8, 1953, and they enjoyed 68 years of marriage before his passing. He is also survived by their children & their spouses, Greg & Tammy Terry (Paris, IL) and Sherri & Steve Denney (Robinson, IL); his two granddaughters, Erin Terry (Decatur, IL) and Tracy Harrison (Robinson, IL); his niece, Donna Henry (Oblong, IL); as well as several other nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Alma McCrory, Laura Terry, and Wanda Parker; his brothers, Ernest Terry and LeRoy Terry; his niece, Linda & Harold Sparks; and his nephew, Lewis Henry.

A time of visitation will be held from 1:30-3:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 21st at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. Funeral services will immediately follow and be held at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday with Pastor Bill Greenwood & Paul's son Greg Terry officiating. Burial will be in the Robinson New Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded. Memorial contributions may be made to the "Alzheimer's Association", with envelopes available at the funeral home.
