RHS, OPH golf teams host recent meets

High school golf teams from Crawford County were in action at home earlier this week, but netted less than stellar results.

In a match at Quail Creek Country Club Monday, Robinson finished third out of three teams. The Maroons posted a team score of 198, while Effingham St. Anthony shot a 158 and Mt. Carmel finished with a 172.

Nathan Rich led RHS with a score of four-over-par 40, while also scoring were Daniel Davis with a 48 and Joe Quick with a 51, while Mason Arnone and Cody Waggoner tied for the fourth scoring slot with rounds of 59 apiece. Walker Nethery’s 60 also was not included in the team score.

Medalist was St. Anthony’s Michael Martelli with a two-over-par 38.

At Oak Glen Golf Course Tuesday, Oblong-Palestine-Hutsonville finished second in what turned out to be a two-team meet. OPH finished with a 198, while Altamont slipped past with a 195. Tri-County and Louisville-North Clay also competed, but did not have enough golfers to post a team score.

Carson Musgrave and Riley Blank led OPH with rounds of 47 apiece, while also scoring were Cody York with a 49 and Cameron Davis with a 55. Rounds of 56 from Arron Johnson and 66 from Rowan Bailey did not count toward the team score.

Medalist was Altamont’s Avery Jarhaus with a score of 42.

In a girls’ match, OPH lost to Tri-County, 257-243.

Top finisher for OPH was Daylen Beckes with a 61, followed by Emily Rachoy and Makenzie McDaniel with rounds of 64 apiece and Cydney Pethtel with a 68.

Medalist was Tri-County’s Ona Pellicer with a 50.

Robinson is slated to play four times in four days next week, starting with a home match on Monday. The Maroons are then scheduled to play at Teutopolis Tuesday, then compete in the Little Illini Conference Tournament Wednesday and finish up by playing at OPH on Thursday. In addition to their home match on Thursday, OPH is slated to play at Casey-Westfield Monday.
