One win and one loss Saturday put Robinson Community Little League’s 12-year-old all-star team in line to win another championship.

Robinson was among three teams that competed in the Section 1 Tournament in Paris and managed to split their two games, which was good enough to earn themselves a spot in the title game.

Each of the three teams – Robinson, Paris and Brown County – played two games apiece Saturday afternoon/evening, with the teams with the two best records advancing to a winner-take-all championship game.

In their first game, Robinson cruised to a 6-1 win over Brown County.

Each team scored a run in the first inning, but Robinson took the lead for good with a three-run second inning. Robinson then tacked on insurance runs in the fourth and fifth to seal the win.

Kale Pasero led Robinson at the plate with a triple and a run scored, while Dagg Thompson posted a single, a run batted in and a run scored, Jaxon Hires singled and drove in a run, Jetson Hoalt scored two runs and Aaron Truitt and Zack Riggs scored a run apiece.

Deek Thompson was the winning pitcher, allowing one run on six hits and striking out three in six innings of work. Thompson also needed just 51 pitches to get through those six innings and 39 of those pitches were strikes (77 percent).

In their next game, one bad inning cost Robinson in a 7-4 loss to Paris.

Paris struck first with a run in the bottom of the first inning, but Robinson scored twice in the top of the third to take a 2-1 lead. That lead was short-lived, however, as Paris broke through for six runs in the bottom of the third to take a 7-2 lead. Robinson answered back with two runs in the fourth, but were unable to get any closer.

Kale Pasero again led Robinson at the plate with a double, a single and two runs scored, while Dagg Thompson doubled, singled and drove in a run. Hoalt singled and knocked in two runs, Truitt posted a single, a run batted in and a run scored, Hires singled and scored a run and Riggs and Felix Reynolds added a base hit apiece.

Riggs suffered the loss on the mound, allowing seven runs on nine hits, while walking two and striking out three in five innings of work.

In the final game of the round-robin portion of the tournament, Paris rolled to a 10-0 win over Brown County.

That result meant Brown County was eliminated with an 0-2 record and set up a rematch between Robinson (1-1) and Paris (2-0) for the championship.

The winner-take-all title bout was slated to take place Sunday afternoon, but rain caused the game to initially be delayed, then ultimately postponed. It was rescheduled for Monday at 7 p.m. in Paris. The winner will advance to the state tournament in Moline beginning Saturday.
