Conference play continues to be favorable for Lincoln Trail College’s baseball team.
The Statesmen stayed undefeated in Great Rivers Athletic Conference and Region 24 play following a four-game sweep of Shawnee Community College last week.
In Thursday’s doubleheader at Parker Field in Robinson, LTC rolled to a 14-4 victory in game one and scored a 13-0 win in game two.
In game one, LTC opened with a run in the first inning, then plated four in the second, another in the third and three more in the fourth for a 9-0 lead. Shawnee responded with four runs in the top of the fifth, only for LTC to come back with two runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth and add three more in the sixth to end the game via the 10-run rule.
Kyle Cortner led LTC at the plate with three singles, four runs scored and a run batted in, while Kade Lassen doubled, singled, knocked in two runs and scored twice. Andrew Washburn singled twice, drove in two runs and scored a pair of runs, Cade Nelis singled twice, knocked in two runs and scored a run, Max Davenport posted two singles and a run scored, Jeron Williams tripled, drove in three runs and scored a run, Adam Hutchison tripled and knocked in a run, James Jett doubled and scored two runs, Blake Barrett added a base hit and two runs batted in and Derrick Dawson scored a run.
Zach Frasher earned the win on the mound, allowing two hits, walking two and striking out three in four scoreless innings. Justin Boggs gave up four runs on one hit, walked three and struck out two in two-thirds of an inning and Kyler Rainford allowed one hit, walked one and struck out two in one and one-third innings of scoreless relief.
In game two, LTC scored three runs in each of the first two innings to jump out to an early lead, then tacked on three runs in the fourth and four more in the sixth to complete the scoring.
The game was called after seven innings due to the 10-run rule.
Nelis led the LTC offense with two doubles, two runs batted in and two runs scored, while Jett doubled, singled twice, scored three runs and knocked in two runs. Sebastian Kuhns singled twice, drove in four runs and scored a run, Hutchison doubled and drove in two runs, Williams singled twice, knocked in a run and scored a run, Lassen added a base hit, two runs scored and a run batted in, Cortner singled and scored two runs and Barrett scored a run. Hutchison picked up the win, allowing two hits, walking two and striking out seven in four scoreless innings. Jeffery Bryant went the rest of the way, giving up one hit, walking four and striking out four in three innings, earning a save in the process.
At Shawnee Friday, LTC won 13-0 in game one, then picked up an 11-6 victory in game two.
In game one, LTC again jumped out to an early lead with three runs in the first, then the Statesmen plated six in the second and tacked on four more in the third to complete the scoring.
The game was stopped after five innings due to the 10-run rule.
Cortner led the offense for LTC with a home run, a single, two runs batted in and two runs scored, while Davenport tripled, doubled, knocked in two runs and scored twice. Washburn doubled, singled, drove in two runs and scored a pair of runs, Lassen doubled, singled twice, knocked in three runs and scored twice, Jett tripled, drove in two runs and scored a run, Kuhns added a base hit and two runs scored, Cy Young singled and Hutchison and Williams each scored a run.
Cade Carlson was the winning pitcher, allowing two hits, walking two and striking out six in four innings. Dalton Huffman tossed the final frame, retiring all three batters he faced.
In game two, neither team scored until the third inning, when LTC pushed across a run. Shawnee responded with three in the bottom of the third to take their first lead in the series, only for LTC to counter with three runs in the fourth, two in the fifth and five in the seventh to make the score 11-3. Shawnee answered with three in the bottom of the eighth, but they could not get any closer.
Lassen led LTC at the plate with a home run, two singles, two runs batted in and a run scored, while Davenport doubled, singled, drove in three runs and scored a run. Williams doubled, singled, scored three runs and knocked in a run, Barrett doubled, singled and scored a run, Nelis singled twice, scored two runs and knocked in a run, Washburn tripled, drove in two runs and scored a run, Cortner and Hutchison added a base hit apiece, Dawson drove in a run and scored a run and Jett scored a run.
Zach Davidson earned the win on the mound, allowing three runs on three hits, while walking five and striking out nine in four and two-thirds innings. Cameron Adams gave up one hit and struck out two in two and one-third scoreless innings of relief and Wyatt Westendorf allowed three unearned runs on two hits, while walking one and striking out one in two innings of work.
Lincoln Trail (14-9, 9-0 GRAC, 11-0 Region 24) was slated to play a GRAC doubleheader at Kaskaskia Tuesday, while also finishing a suspended game from their twinbill in Robinson last week. The Statesmen are next scheduled to play at Olney Central Thursday at noon.
