Shirley A. Dennis, 83, Oblong, passed away on Monday, July 27, 2020 at Daviess Community Hospital in Washington, Ind.
She was born in Robinson on March 6, 1937. On March 21, 1953 she married Jimmie Dennis, who survives.
Shirley had worked at Oblong Community Unit School District # 4 as a custodian and was homemaker. She was a member of the Bible Chapel Congregational Christian Church and most recently Prior Grove Christian Church. She had been the choir leader at Bible Chapel Church for many years. She was also an Auxiliary member of the Eagles, V.F.W., American Legion and Moose.
She is survived by her husband Jimmie Dennis, Oblong; a son Rick Dennis, Oblong; two daughters and son-in-law Ronnie and Tino Goss, Oblong, (The Bend) and Rosie Anderson, Lawrenceville; a sister-in-law Jo York, Miss. and a brother-in-law Dan Goss, Oblong (The Bend). She is also survived by seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her is death were her step-father and mother Raliegh and Christine (Littlejohn) York, a infant daughter Brenda, a sister Garnet Goss, brothers Richard York, Larry York and infant brother Jerry York.
Celebration of Shirley’s Life will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday August 2, 2020 at Pulliam Funeral Home in Oblong. Burial will follow in Oblong Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until service time on Sunday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of a contribution to the Oblong Sports Boosters or the Oblong Schools Academic Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home or may be mailed to Pulliam Funeral Home P.O. Box 121 Oblong, IL 62449.
Under the guidelines of the CDC and the State of Illinois for COVID-19 social distancing will be encouraged as will the use of face coverings.
